Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how CounterSwipe collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile app, website, and related services.
Information we collect
- Account and event information: information you provide when signing in, creating an account, or registering for an event, such as your name, permanent username, verified email address, authentication identifiers, age-eligibility confirmation, ranked topics, selected sides, preferred debate format, rules acceptance, and communication choices.
- App and debate content: prompts, votes, replies, messages, debate activity, friend/group interactions, uploaded media, live-debate transcripts, reports, and other content you choose to create or share in the app.
- Contacts: if you grant permission, CounterSwipe may access contacts to help you find or invite friends. You can control this through your device permissions.
- Device and usage information: device type, operating system, app version, diagnostics, log data, advertising/referral source, feature usage, check-in and lobby-presence signals, connection events, IP-derived security signals, and approximate interaction events used to operate, secure, and improve the service.
- Notifications: if you enable push notifications, we may store push tokens and notification preferences.
How we use information
- To provide and operate CounterSwipe features, including account access, matching, swiping, debates, tournaments, groups, sharing, reminders, standings, and prize administration.
- To personalize app experiences and maintain your progress, history, relationships, and preferences.
- To send verification codes and event-operational messages. We send broader event announcements only when you choose to receive them.
- To automatically evaluate debate transcripts for argument quality, rule compliance, and toxicity; calculate match results and standings; and identify results that require eligibility, safety, or fraud review.
- To monitor reliability, detect duplicate or coordinated participation, prevent abuse, investigate reports, debug issues, improve safety, and understand aggregate app usage.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our policies.
Sharing of information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with service providers that help us run the app, such as cloud hosting, authentication, analytics, storage, email delivery, speech transcription, automated content analysis, and app platform services. Event usernames, records, scores, standings, and winners may be visible to other participants or the public. We may also share information when required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.
Live debates and automated judging
Text debates are stored as messages. Voice and video debates transmit live media between participants; when a scored feature is active, audio may also be processed in short segments to create a text transcript. CounterSwipe does not use the tournament feature to retain a full video recording unless we provide separate notice. Transcripts, speaking-time signals, reports, and detected conduct events may be used to score argument quality, apply toxicity penalties, determine match results, resolve ties, enforce rules, and review suspicious activity.
Automated scoring can make mistakes. Prize results remain subject to eligibility, security, and fraud checks. You may contact us if you believe a safety action or tournament result was affected by a technical error.
Third-party services
CounterSwipe may use third-party services, including cloud infrastructure, authentication providers, app stores, analytics, and messaging/notification providers. These services may process information according to their own privacy policies.
Your choices
- You can control camera, media library, contacts, and notification permissions in your device settings.
- You can choose what content you create or share in the app.
- You can decline optional event announcements without turning off verification codes or operational messages for an event you joined.
- You may request account or data deletion by contacting us at the email below.
Data retention
We keep information for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain account history and event integrity, administer prizes, prevent repeat abuse, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Transcripts and tournament records may be retained for a limited review period after an event. Some content may remain in backups or logs for a limited period after deletion.
Children
CounterSwipe is not intended for children under 13. Prize tournaments may require participants to be at least 18 years old, as stated in the applicable event rules. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect information. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and may provide additional notice in the app or on the website.
